"Brooklyn, Your voice communicates so much passion, your songs are beautiful and you entrance the audience! Thank you for sharing your music. XXOO - Sweet Joyce Ann" - Singer/Songwriter (A note given to Brooklyn after her Tower Two performance on 10/29/06)
"Brooklyn's voice quavers softly then ignites with a quiet fire roaring with soulful power. Her songs are well written and insightful. I can only expect to hear more good things from this young lady in the future." - Scott Zensen - Artist
Brooklyn wasn't born in Brooklyn, nor has she always been called by the name of the tough and colourful borrough. Brooke Mackintosh was born the first of three children in Salt Lake City, Utah. Raised by talented and loving parents in a world built on love, family, religion and the black and white standards surrounding it all. The same strict standards which threatened her creativity and inevitably forced her to step out of the boundaries she was raised to believe in, in order to pursue her true calling, music. A natural born singer, but without the means of professional training, her father, (a singer and talented musician himself,) coached her and handed down his love for music. At the age of five, she was already playing the piano by ear and composing her first songs. Performing in multiple choirs helped her begin making waves in her early teens as a solo singer, perfoming for various contests, talent shows and ceremonies and when her father decided to teach her to pick a guitar at age fifteen, she instantly became a songwriter. In her late teens, while her friends were preparing for college, missions and marraige, she felt a seperational pull between her dream and the life she was living. Trying to live out her dreams proved an ultimate hardship or her relious path, having been told numerous times by peers and respected leaders that she would not be able to lead a virtuous christian life while leading the life of a musician. Inevitably, she felt inclined to back away from her dream and focussed on settling down amidst her family and friends. In doing so, she felt the painful calling of her dream tear at the seems of her new dedication towards her marraige. After her divorce, her father gave her a beautiful new acoustic guitar to write the pain away, and she was inspired to pursue music once again. Setting the rules and consequences of her faltering religion asaide, she began winning karaoke contests across the state in local bars, which opened the door for her to become nationally known for her talents due to her performances singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" for motorcross and NASCAR races. Shortly thereafter, she worked up the courage and began playing open mics and singing her own songs. Once she felt the response to her songs through a large crowd, she immediately felt the need to step out of the boundaries laid before her and spread her wings. After reaching the decision to leave everything she knew behind, in early 2006, Brooklyn was inspired to pack what she could fit into her car (including her dog, cat, and two guitars) and headed south on I-15 towards San Diego where she shared a small trailer with her pets and found her way into the local music scene. Through open mics and other artists with similar paths, she met her friend and producer Sven-Erik Seaholm, with whom she recorded and released her first album Blue Skies Await in 2007. With the help of friends and many multitalented musicians, Brooklyn has made her name in San Diego. Now, she's playing and booking special guest artists every Tuesday night in Pacific Beach and every Wednesday night at Hennessey's Tavern downtown. Soon, she'll be seen touring the country with her pets, her guitars, and her music as she follows the next path of her journey.
~ME, TALKING ABOUT...ME~ Music from the heart lives in your soul forever. I'm a Singer, a songwriter and musician. I take my aggressions and inspirations out in creative ways, whether it be playing the guitar or the piano while wailing to an unwritten song, or sweatin' it out at the all-inspiring gym or dance club. Music is my life. Living my dream is my guide. Singing is my Passion. Love is my ultimate inspiration and my distraction. I'm not afraid of taking chances and I'm still learning from mistakes while trying to follow the signs. I'm living to achieve my 'Personal Legend' and loving every second of this life that I feel extremely blessed to make my home! I love life and all it has to to offer. I dream to live and I live to dream. I've been through a lot and I've put myself through it all. I'll never regret anything, because "everything happens for a reason" and everything I've encountered and lived through has helped me become who I am today. I love who I've become and I can't wait to see who'll I'll be tomorrow! Me? I'm just Me. No set rules or regulations. No set style. Trendsetter, though sometimes...no style. That's life. That's Brooklyn. I just hope to be a good example, because every second counts and everyday is worth living to the fullest!!
